Our Story

After Bill's Honorable discharge as a lieutenant in the United States Army Military Police Corps, he took a job as a bellman at Curry Village in Yosemite National Park. This was the beginning of his career in Hospitality and Guest Service. His experiences include General Manager of the Ahwahnee Hotel In Yosemite National Park, Mountain Manager at Sun Valley Ski Resort in Idaho, CEO of Kings Canyon National Park Services Concessions in Kings Canyon, California, and a variety of General Manager positions in motels and hotels throughout California, Oregon, and Idaho.


Anne has worked as a Restaurant Server, Trainer, and Manager in Yosemite and Fresno, California. During her 15 year career as a member of the Classified Staff at State Center Community College District in Fresno, she gained managerial experience in the Business and Student Service offices and spent much of her career at SCCCD as Administrative Assistant to the Chief of Police. Anne has completed the Institute of Technology Culinary Arts Program. This program exposed her to all the professional culinary skills required of a Chef in a variety of restaurant types. After her internship at the Ahwahnee Hotel, she has worked in restaurants and catering operations in the Fresno area. Currently, Anne is the owner, operator, cook, and server for CIBO, a personal chef and catering business. Bill also takes an active part in CIBO as a server, bartender, dishwasher, and driver.


After traditional careers in Hotel and Resort Management, Food and Beverage service, and Educational Administration management, we decided to form INN YOUR ABSENCE, an interim innkeeping service that would allow us to use our knowledge, experience, and passion for guest service in a new and challenging segment of the lodging industry.  The major foundation of the business plan of INN YOUR ABSENCE is that we are strongly committed to operating your properties as you desire – we will follow your policies, procedures, recipes, and directions in a manner that your guests may not even realize you are not ‘on property’.  If new policies or procedures are what you want, then we will be happy to work with you.


In our first year, 2017, we worked a total of 142 days for five different clients, all of whom have invited us back at least once.  We are now booked through September 2020, with assignments in California, Oregon, and Washington, including three new clients. We are currently in discussion with potential clients in Alaska, Colorado, and Wyoming.



ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Summer 2017 - Emergency fire evacuation with 30-minute notice by Mariposa County Sheriff Department. Helped secure property, gathered vital documents including computers, credit card machines, cash boxes, and valuables. Safely escorted guests and their property off the premises.

  • Summer 2018 – Emergency fire evacuation following the National Park Service announcement that all outdoor activities were to be suspended.  Assisted campers in exiting campground, broke down and stored all equipment and vacated the area.

  • October 2018 - Passed Lincoln County, Oregon, Health Inspection with 100% on both foodservice and rooms.​

  • Summer 2019 - Full responsibility for maintaining a sustainable native plant garden and wildlife area certified by the National Wildlife Federation.

  • Summer 2020 - Developed and implemented property-specific COVID 19 operating procedures mandated by the Oregon Health Authority Guidelines and Best Practices of the Oregon Restaurant and Lodging Association.
